Police in Brazil have rescued a man whose neighbours believe may have been held captive by his family for anywhere up to 20 years. The man, identified as Armando Bezerra de Andrade, 36, was recovered by officers during an unrelated anti-drugs raid in the city of Guarulhos, north east of Sao Paulo. Neighbours said he was an outgoing student who was regularly beaten by his stepmother before he suddenly disappeared when he was 16, Reuters reported. The man was taken to a local hospital in the south-eastern city and police said he was unable to talk. Source: Independent UK.

Brazilian World Cup winning captain Carlos Alberto Torres has died, aged 72 Tipped as one of the greatest defenders ever, Alberto won 53 caps for the Brazil National Team, scoring 8 goals including the iconic goal in the 1970 World Cup final against Italy. He spent the majority of his club career with Santos where he played alongside Pelé, before moving back to his first club Fluminese in 1974. He also had brief stints with Flamengo and New York Cosmos. Alberto retired in 1982. He went on to coach Flamengo, Fluminese, Azerbaijan and Oman. In 2004, Alberto was included in Pele's FIFA 100 for the world's greatest living players in 2004

       Today 23 October marks the birthday of the greatest football player in history, Pelé . I decided to bring to you a brief summary of the life of the " Black Pearl ".        Pelé (real name Edson Arantes do Nascimento ) was born on 23 October 1940. He was named after the American inventor Thomas Edison. He received the nickname "Pelé" during his school days. He could not pronounce the name of his favourite player "Bilé" properly, instead he said "Pelé", so the name stuck.        Pelé grew up in poverty in São Paulo. He earned extra cash by working in tea shops. He played for several amateur teams in his youth, including Sete de Setembro , Canto de Rio , São Paulinho and Amériquinha .         In 1956, Pelé had a trial with professional club Santos FC .
