Kenya’s government on Thursday announced a 60-day dusk to dawn curfew in the northeastern town of Mandera, hit by two deadly terrorist attacks in three weeks. Interior minister Joseph Nkaissery issued the order two days after Shabaab militants killed 12 people at a hotel in Mandera town on Tuesday. He said the curfew, from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am would begin on Thursday and remain in place until December 27. It would be enforced along a 20 kilometre (12 mile) buffer zone of towns and territory reaching to the Somalia border. This week’s attack was the second in Mandera in less than three weeks, with both claimed by the Al-Qaeda-linked Shabaab group. Gambia has become the third African nation to say it will leave the International Criminal Court, deepening fears of a mass pullout from the body that pursues some of the world’s worst atrocities. In announcing the decision Tuesday night on national television, Gambia accused the court of unfairly targeting Africa and calling it the “International Caucasian Court for the persecution and humiliation of people of color, especially Africans.” The move comes after South Africa, once a strong ICC supporter under former President Nelson Mandela, notified the United Nations secretary-general last week that it would leave the court. Burundi’s president last week signed legislation to leave the court as well. Gambia’s move drew swift condemnation from human rights groups. The former presenter for Capital FM, Grace Makosewe was found dead in her apartment in Nairobi on Wednesday morning, October 26th. According to Peter Katam, Kilimani police boss, her cousin who had left the house in Golf Course Phase 2 estate earlier for work reported her death. The cause of her death is still unknown.

Not more than twelve people have been killed in an extremist attack targeting non-Muslims in Mandera County near Kenya's border with Somalia. Mohamed Saleh, Mandera's regional commander, said that gunmen from Somali-based extremist group al-Shabab are suspected of carrying out the attack on the Bisharo Guest House. Al-Shabab has vowed retribution on Kenya for sending troops into Somalia since 2011 to fight the militants who are waging an insurgency against Somalia's weak, Western-backed government. Kenyan security forces have managed to stop the wave of Al-Shabab's attacks in major cities that have killed hundreds over the past few years. However, Mandera County remains a volatile area.
