UFC Superstar Conor McGregor obtains boxing licence in California.

UFC star Conor McGregor obtained his boxing license in the state of California, furthering speculation of a mega fight versus retired boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., who has a home in downtown Los Angeles.

Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather promotions, called the move a "calculated effort to gain more fans."
"He got a boxing license. Congratulations to him," Ellerbe told ESPN. "Conor McGregor can say anything he wants to, but he has a boss and his name is (UFC president) Dana White. He is under contract to the UFC, and if he wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match, he can't because his bosses wouldn't allow that to happen."

Mayweather retired with an undefeated 49-0 record after beating Andre Berto on Sept. 12, 2015.
McGregor is still under contract with the UFC, where he holds the lightweight championship. He beat Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on Nov. 12 to win the featherweight title, becoming the first to ever hold two UFC titles at once.
However, the UFC stripped McGregor of the featherweight title last Saturday so he could focus on the lightweight division. Jose Aldo assumed the featherweight belt as the new champion.

McGregor announced after UFC 205 that he and his wife are expecting the birth of their first child in 2017. As a result, White said McGregor won't fight again until next May.
