Stephen Hawking, an award-winning physicist and influential author, died early Wednesday morning, a family spokesman told ABC News. He was 76. Hawking, whose books included "A Brief History of Time" and "The Universe in a Nutshell," was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 1962. The family did not disclose the cause of death, but said he “died peacefully” at his home in Cambridge, England. "We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years," the family said in a statement. "His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humor inspired people across the world. He once said, 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.' I decided to bring to you a brief summary of the life of the " Black Pearl ".        Pelé (real name Edson Arantes do Nascimento ) was born on 23 October 1940. He was named after the American inventor Thomas Edison. He received the nickname "Pelé" during his school days. He could not pronounce the name of his favourite player "Bilé" properly, instead he said "Pelé", so the name stuck.        Pelé grew up in poverty in São Paulo. He earned extra cash by working in tea shops. Wearing a patriotic Stars and Stripes jacket with handbag combo, Perry visited a polling booth on her special day to exercise her democratic right ahead of the Nov. 8 U.S. election.
